Decision to reopen primary classes in Pune region after December 15 – Times of India

Pune: Schools in the Pune Municipal Corporation and Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation area and rural parts of Pune district will remain closed till December 15, according to a notification issued by both the civic bodies and the Pune district council on Tuesday.

The state education department approved the reopening of the schools from December 1, but both corporations have decided to wait until the physical reopening of classes I to VII. Classes from the eighth grade will be allowed to work as they are.

The need to contain the potential spread of the Omicron variant of the Covid-19 virus is cited in both notices as the reason for this preventive measure, which further states that a revised decision to reopen schools after December 15 will be taken in the Covid-19 situation. The same decision will apply to Pune and Khadki Cantonment Board areas. Pune District Collector Rajesh Deshmukh also issued an order on Tuesday evening that rural schools would not reopen from December 1 and online education would continue till further orders.

His order said, “All teachers and non-teaching staff will report to the school at full capacity. Staff should work to prepare schools for reopening with all Covid protocols. Teachers should be fully vaccinated at this time so that 100% of staff can report after the school has decided to reopen. ”

Deshmukh further said in his statement that residential schools should also be prepared for reopening while school management committees must sensitize school transport committees and inform them about the guidelines to be followed during this period.

Many schools in Pune and Pimpri Chinchwad, especially those affiliated with the National Board of Education, have already decided to suspend their schools in January instead of starting online in December.

The CISCE Schools Association of Maharashtra has written to the education department asking them to call ICSE schools and open their schools from December 21 or January 2022. The letter explains that ICSE schools will conduct semester I board examinations until December. Closed for the Christmas holidays from 16 and then 23 December.

Marcus Deshmukh, a spokesman for The Bishops’ School, said: “The board exams are being held now. We need to make sure that each student maintains a distance of six feet. Thus, more classrooms will be taken which will require more teachers for the inspection duties. Moreover, our winter vacation started immediately after that. We have already informed the parents that the eighth grade schools will start physically from 6th January and will start in March-April when the next academic year starts. Parents have provided this information and have agreed to continue online classes until then. ”

Rohit R, a parent of two girls studying in elementary classes at a city-based CBSE school, said they too have received a notification that the schools will start physical classes in January 2022.
