CwSN needs technical support for e-content – Times of India

The Ministry of Education has issued guidelines stating the need for e-content development for children with special needs (CwSN). Educators believe that technical assistance needs to be specified and provided to enable inclusive education at the school level.

The ministry wants to achieve equality and inclusion by creating special e-content for children with special needs. In addition, the use of radio, community radio and podcasts for grades one through twelve will be encouraged. The ministry will also focus on creating sign language videos for students with hearing impairments, which will be made available on the official portal.

Provide helpful help

The question is whether creating e-content will help students with disabilities such as visual impairment. Abdul Jalil P, Principal, MP International School, Kerala, said, “Although providing e-resources to students is the first step, the government needs to provide assistive devices to adequately equip schools at subsidized rates. According to the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, there will be no special school for children with special needs. However, it is difficult to streamline the education system in mainstream schools to meet the needs of these students. ”

Preeti Rajinder Johar, CEO, Family of the Disabled, an NGO working for education for CwSN, said: Providing a structure that is supposed to help them is not enough. The government also needs to conduct regular checks to keep a tab on how well these changes are being implemented in schools. ”

In this regard, educator (Inclusion and Remedy), Usha Chouz adds, “We can assume that e-content is the answer to all the education-related problems faced by CwSN. However, we must understand that they cannot feel the same way. Therefore, their likes and dislikes are taken into consideration while formulating any new policy through ground evaluation. ”

On whether e-content will limit CwSN’s movement in schools, Kumar said, “It will not only help us, but also move towards achieving full inclusive education with the standards recommended in the Advanced Educational and Professional Development Guidelines for all.”

The importance of peer-to-peer learning for children with disabilities needs to be promoted. “The goal is to bring all children to the same level. Although e-content will help at least somewhat, an alternative process such as Braille and Sign Language should be introduced as a third optional language. This will help them better understand the needs of their peers with disabilities, ”said Chaucer.
