New Delhi: The Center has told the Supreme Court that a study group has been constituted by the Defense Service to expedite the formulation of a comprehensive curriculum for female cadets. The government said a notification would be issued in May 2022 to allow female candidates to take the entrance test for admission to the three defense services under the existing sections through the National Defense Academy (NDA).

In an affidavit filed before a bench headed by Justice Sanjay Kisan Kaul, the Center said: “A study group has been formed by the Defense Services, comprising of experts, has formulated a comprehensive curriculum for female cadets in the NDA and has a Board of Officers. The cadets were called upon to come up with an overall and future proposal for training that would cover all relevant issues. ”

The center said that while the curriculum was right, all other aspects of the training needed to be formulated separately for women candidates. “The main topics are curriculum and parameters, inter alia, outdoor training, such as drills, equations, swimming, games, sports, etc.”, the affidavit added.

However, the government has not clarified how many women candidates will be included in the first batch. “The determination of cadre strength in existing weapons and services will depend, among other things, on cadre ratios, the capacity of a particular service academy, the desired cadre structure and its low flow,” the affidavit added. Regarding the aspect of infrastructure for the stay of female cadets, the Center said that the process of UPSC notification for inclusion of female cadets is expected to start early next year, with various preparatory steps being planned for implementation.
