CJI asks lawyers to assist judges, protect institution from motivated and targeted attacks | India News – Times of India

New Delhi: Chief Justice of India (CJI) NV Ramna on Friday asked lawyers to lend a helping hand to judges and protect the judiciary from “motivated and targeted attacks” as well as lend a helping hand if needed to earn their trust. Citizens.
“I want to tell all of you that you must help the judges and the organization. We are all part of a larger family in the end. Protect the organization from intentional and targeted attacks. Do not hesitate to stand for what is right and what is wrong, ”said CJI while speaking at the Constitution Day celebrations organized by the Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) on the lawn of the Supreme Court.
The SCBA event is an event that will be held on Friday and Saturday to celebrate Constitution Day, also known as National Law Day. On the same day in 1949, the Constituent Assembly of India adopted the Constitution which came into force on January 26, 1950.
Justice Ramna emphasized the importance of “debate and discussion” and said that due to the dialogue inside and outside the courtroom, the constitution was richer and more complex than when it was adopted.
“Today’s constitution, built on the foundations laid by Framer, is a richer and more complex document than it was when it was adopted in 1949. It is the result of dialogue, novels and unique interpretations, both inside and outside the courtroom,” he said.
The CJI said, “Perhaps, the most important feature of the Indian Constitution is that it provides a framework for debate. The visible players must be the lawyers and judges of this country. ”
He recalled the contribution of legendary lawyers, Mahatma Gandhi, Dr BR Ambedkar, Jawaharlal Nehru, Lala Lajpat Roy, Sardar Patel and Alladi Krishnaswamy Iyer in the struggle for independence and in drafting the constitution and called on lawyers to take an active role. Accept cases whenever you can. Be worthy of the trust people have in you. ”
“As a person with an intimate knowledge of the constitution and the law, it is your responsibility to educate the rest of the citizens about the role they play in society. The history, present and future of this nation is on your shoulders, “CJI told the lawyers.
The legal profession is called a noble profession for a reason and it demands “skills, experience and commitment” like any other profession, he said, adding that it requires “honesty, knowledge of social issues, social responsibility and civic qualities. Must be a leader and mentor. ”
He said that everyone should pledge to promote the ideas that form the basis of the constitution: freedom, equality, and justice for all people in all its aspects.
In addition to congratulating the five lawyers for completing 50 years in the profession, the CJI also congratulated the lawyers who were awarded certificates for writing and publishing the book where SCBA President Bikash Singh and others were present.
“Knowledge and information are very important. They are even more valuable in the legal profession. Researching a topic, gaining an in-depth knowledge of that topic and sharing it with the world is a great service you are providing to the legal community and the public … ”said CJI.
Days later, the CJI will take part in another event on Constitution Day which is being organized by the Supreme Court Registry at the Science Building here where Prime Minister Narendra Modi will also be present at the event.
On Saturday, President Ramnath Kobind will be the chief guest at the closing ceremony of the Constitution Day celebrations.
