Channy said that during his tenure as technical education minister (formerly in the cabinet headed by Amarinder Singh), he used midnight oil to help the university emerge from the financial crisis.

Channi said that by studying in government schools, colleges and universities, he is fully aware of the ground level problems of these educational institutions.
Listing other steps, Channi said that the state government was making efforts to promote the Punjabi language and with this in mind the Punjabi language law has been strictly enforced in the state.
On the occasion, the Chief Minister inaugurated the Rural Entrepreneurship and Skills Training Center with Finance Minister Manpreet Singh Badal.
