Announcing the financial liability of the university at Rs 150 crore, the Chief Minister also announced to increase the annual grant from Rs 114 crore to Rs 240 crore as part of efforts to save the university from financial turmoil. , According to an official statement. Praising the Punjabi University for its efforts to ensure quality higher education as well as development of Punjabi language for students from poor economic background, Channy said, “Previous governments, especially some chief ministers, have not taken any steps to help the university solve its financial crisis.”

“This is why the university – the proud flag bearer of the Punjabi mother tongue – is embroiled in the worst kind of financial mess,” the chief minister added.

Channy said that during his tenure as technical education minister (formerly in the cabinet headed by Amarinder Singh), he used midnight oil to help the university emerge from the financial crisis.

“However, the then chief minister did not pay any attention to it,” he said without naming his predecessor Amarinder Singh.

Channi said that by studying in government schools, colleges and universities, he is fully aware of the ground level problems of these educational institutions.

Listing other steps, Channi said that the state government was making efforts to promote the Punjabi language and with this in mind the Punjabi language law has been strictly enforced in the state.

On the occasion, the Chief Minister inaugurated the Rural Entrepreneurship and Skills Training Center with Finance Minister Manpreet Singh Badal.
