Centre grants 1,000 crore Yaas relief for West Bengal, Odisha & Jharkhand | India News – Times of India

Bhubaneswar / Kolkata: PM Narendra Modi on Friday announced a financial assistance of Rs 1,000 crore for Odisha, West Bengal and Jharkhand affected by cyclone Yas and said that a team of central ministries visited three states to assess the total loss Will do.
The announcement was made by Modi after conducting an aerial survey of Bhadrak and Balasore districts of Odisha, which were affected by the cyclone, and Purba Medinipur in West Bengal. Officials said that while Odisha will get Rs 500 crore immediately, Rs 500 crore will be given to West Bengal and Jharkhand, which will be released on the basis of loss.
The PM also announced an ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh each to the kin of the deceased and Rs 50,000 to each seriously injured in the cyclone.
He appreciated the preparedness and disaster management activities by the Odisha government, resulting in minimal loss of life and property. He said that disaster reduction has been emphasized by the Finance Commission by making a provision of Rs 30,000 crore. West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee met Modi at Kalaikunda airbase and handed him a report on the damage caused by the cyclone in the state. She did not attend the review meeting with the PM, which was attended by Bengal Governor Jagdeep Dhankhar, Union Ministers Dharmendra Pradhan and Debashree Chaudhary and Odisha CM Naveen Patnaik.
