Center for Higher Education: Fill All Vacancies by September 2022 – Times of India

New Delhi: The Center has set a one-year deadline for centrally funded higher education institutions to fill vacancies in mission mode, especially in the reserved category, from Center Day (September 5). It has asked the institutions to send monthly action reports to the Union Ministry of Education (MoE) from September 2021. The ministry on Tuesday asked the Central Institute of Higher Education (CIE) to complete the process by September-September, 2022, and submit a report on the steps taken.

TOI reported on July 24 and 31, 2021 that more than 40% of the approved teaching posts in 15 of the 44 central universities, including Delhi University, are vacant. Allahabad University and Central University of Odisha have more than 70% vacancies in teaching positions. According to official data, more than 6,000 of the 18,911 approved educational institutions in central universities are vacant. In the reserved departments, while more than 55% of the approved OBC posts in 5 central universities and other technical and research institutes are vacant, 1% of SC posts and 1% of ST posts are also vacant in these institutions.

In his letter to CHEI chiefs, Amit Khar, higher education secretary in the education ministry, wrote: Classes and EWS departments in Central Higher Education Institutions (CHEls) under the administrative control of the Ministry of Education. To overcome this uncertainty, it has been decided that all CHELs will have to fill these vacancies in one mission mode within a year from 5 September, 2021 to 4 September, 2022 and report on the steps and progress taken. According to the MOE, Delhi University has the highest number of vacancies, with 6 of the 1,700 vacancies still open. Out of 863 teaching posts of Allahabad University, 598 are vacant. Data indicate that more than 50% of central universities (23 out of 44) have more than 30% vacancies.

Instructing all organizations to strictly adhere to the guidelines and to carry out a special campaign “to fill the backlog void of their organization in mission mode”, MoE instructed organizations to include a separate chapter in their annual report (starting from 2021-22) in the time table format of the year.
