BJP candidate Murugan files Rajya Sabha nomination, likely to be elected unopposed | India News – Times of India

Bhopal: Senior BJP leader from Tamil Nadu and Union Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting (I&B) L Murugan on Tuesday filed his nomination papers for the Rajya Sabha by-elections from Madhya Pradesh. He is expected to be elected unopposed to the upper house because Congress has refused to field a candidate for the post.
Murugan reached the state assembly along with Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, Union Minister Prahlad Patel, BJP MP chief Vishnu Dutt Sharma and other party leaders to submit his nomination papers. He submitted the papers to the Returning Officer and Chief Secretary of the Legislative Assembly, Abhadhesh Pratap Singh.
The Election Commission announced by-elections in Madhya Pradesh’s only Rajya Sabha seat earlier this month after the resignation of former Union Minister Thaoar Chand Gehlot, who was appointed governor of Karnataka, became void. The BJP has decided to field El Murugan from the state.
Welcoming the decision, BJP state chief Sharma said the Congress had not fielded any candidate as the old party feared losing more MLAs. “Congress fears that if the party fielded a candidate in the Rajya Sabha by-elections, the rest of the MLAs could go here and there. Congress is terrified and Kamal Nath ji has taken over the entire organization. .
On Murugan’s candidature, Sharma said the BJP leadership had decided that Madhya Pradesh would give power to Tamil Nadu and the decision was welcomed. “I am very grateful to the central leadership, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah and National President JP Naddar for this decision.
Sharma said the Congress was only involved in caste and regional politics. The BJP works on the Pan India approach. The decision of the central leadership is a matter of good fortune.
Earlier in the morning, Murugan was given a warm welcome at Raju Bhoj Airport and reached the BJP office to seek blessings from party ideologues before submitting nominations. Union Minister of State Prahlad Singh Patel was also present. He thanked the BJP leadership for giving him a chance in the Rajya Sabha from Madhya Pradesh and said there was no difference between the cultures of South and North India.
