Barty returns to Australia to see family, no decision on rest of season | Tennis News – Times of India

His team told Reuters on Tuesday that world number one Ash Barty had not made any decisions for the rest of his season despite withdrawing from next month’s WTA 1000 tournament in Indian Wells to return to Australia to see his family.
The Wimbledon champion last played in the US Open where he was knocked out in the third round and after his withdrawal from Indian Wells there was speculation that the 25-year-old had completed his 2021 campaign.
Barty’s coach Craig Teazer said this month that he might not defend his WTA final crown after moving to Guadalajara, Mexico in November.
Bertie’s manager Nicki Matthias said in a statement: “Ash has returned home from Indian Wells to visit her family in Australia.
“She has been away from home since March and it was not possible for her to return home before she arrived in Australia with a two-week hotel quarantine requirement.
“No further decision has been made on the events after Indian Wells.”
He qualified for the WTA final on November 10-1 and Australia would like Bertie to lead their inaugural Billy Jean King Cup final, which will be held in Prague on November 1-6.
Deciding not to travel outside Australia amid the Covid-1 pandemic epidemic, the bar returned to competitive tennis in early 2021 without playing a match for 11 months.
Since leaving his country in March, Bertie has been on the road and has had a very successful campaign in 2021, including five WTA titles, including his second Grand Slam win at Wimbledon.
