Assam, Manipur cancel 10th class, 12th board exams in coded shadow – Times of India

Guwahati / IMFL / Agartala: Assam and Manipur on Friday canceled this year’s Secondary (Tenth) and Higher Secondary (Twelfth) Board Examinations ahead of the Kovid-19 epidemic.

Meanwhile, Tripura Education Minister Ratan Lal Nath said discussions were underway with all parties to decide on holding secondary and higher secondary examinations in the state.

After holding several meetings with various agencies and stakeholders, Assam Education Minister Ranoj Pegu said on Friday that the health department had informed him that the situation was not favorable for the board to conduct the examination.

He said after discussions with all stakeholders, the education department has decided not to give exams this year.

The minister said two committees would be constituted to determine the types of identification and assessment and the final results would be announced by July 31.

Earlier, the Assam cabinet headed by Chief Minister Himanta Bishwa Sarma had also recommended not giving exams.

Earlier this month, Pegu told the media that the High School Leaving Certificate (HSLC or Class XII) and Higher Secondary (Class XII) examinations could be held between August 1st and August 15th if the epidemic situation is low.

The HSLC examinations are administered by the Board of Secondary Education Assam (SEBA), and the Higher Secondary examinations are conducted by the Assam Higher Secondary Education Council (AHSEC).

About seven lakh students could attend if these tests were conducted.

Imphal Education Minister S. Rajen Singh on Friday announced the cancellation of examinations by the Board of Secondary Education Manipur (Bosem, Class XII) and the Higher Secondary Education Manipur Council (COHSEM, Class XII).

He said many areas, including education, were being affected by the epidemic and its impact on society.

Singh said a 14-member committee has been formed to create alternative assessment and evaluation system for the assessment of 10th and 12th class students.

The Center had canceled the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) Class XII board examination for June 1, 2020.

Following the government’s decision, the Council for Indian School Certificate Examination (CISCE) also canceled the ISC Class XII examination for this year.
