GUWAHATI: Assam Class XII and XII state board exams will be held in March next year with full vaccination of all candidates, Education Minister Ranoj Pegu said on Thursday.

An order issued by the state education department said that the process of vaccinating students between the ages of 15 and 18 would be completed by the first week of March, 2022.

Pegu is hopeful that board candidates can be vaccinated with both doses before the test begins. “Since the pediatric vaccination is scheduled to begin on January 3, test takers will be able to receive both doses before the test begins,” Pegu said. They will be given covacin and the second shot will be 28 to 42 days later. He said that if vaccination is introduced, students of 10 to 15 schools will be vaccinated every day. In smaller districts, about 10 schools will be vaccinated daily, while in larger districts, 15 to 20 school children will be vaccinated.

At the same time an awareness campaign will be run for parents to be vaccinated with both doses. “State board exams may begin in mid-March and end in the first week of April. Necessary preparations have been completed,” Pegu told reporters.

Assam had set an estimated target of vaccinating about 18.25 lakh children. However, the actual number may exceed 20 lakhs, including floating populations and dropouts.

In an order issued by the state education department, the additional deputy commissioners (in charge of education) of the district concerned will coordinate with the school inspectors of the district concerned to oversee the campaign. The school inspector has been instructed to ensure that students from private schools and venture schools are covered during the drive.

“Schools should have two separate rooms for boys and girls for vaccination. Two waiting / rest rooms may be provided for vaccinated girls and boys students inside the school campus,” read the order issued by the Principal Secretary (Education). , B Kalyan Chakraborty.

It further said that the school inspectors would compile a list of junior colleges, polytechnics and technical institutes in their respective districts and coordinate with the head of the institute to arrange vaccination centers. “The Director of Technical Education and the Director of Secondary Education of Assam will provide necessary assistance in this regard,” read the order.
