amarinder singh: Sidhu has no brains: Punjab ex-CM Amarinder Singh | India News – Times of India

CHANDIGARH: Former Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh on Sunday claimed that state Congress chief Navjot Singh Sidhu had “no brain” and advised party president Sonia Gandhi five years ago not to include “this incompetent man” in the party.
In a clear statement, the former chief minister further said that despite receiving input from current chief minister Charanjit Singh Channi and some other Congress leaders involved in illegal sand mining in the state, he “did not act against them out of a sense of loyalty to the party.” Didn’t get “next”.
Speaking to reporters after announcing the first list of his party’s Punjab Lok Congress candidates from 22 seats, Amarinder Singh further said that he did not act as a female IAS officer against Channi in the #MeToo case. Do not follow his complaint.
Amarinder Singh’s newly-launched PLC is jointly contesting the February 20 Punjab Assembly elections in alliance with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the SAD (United).
Asked if he had said he would fight against the 79-year-old Sidhu of the previous Patiala royal family, he said, “I said we would not let him win. Because he is a completely incompetent man. ”
“When the Congress chief asked me (five years ago) to test how Sidhu was, I said that this man was totally unfit to be a member of the Congress party. Yet they went ahead and included him,” he said.
Amarinder Singh was forced to resign as chief minister last September after a feud with Sidhu, who joined the Congress ahead of the 2017 Punjab Assembly elections.
“From day one, I said the man had no brain. He was just a waste of time. I told the Congress president all this when he asked me how he would fit in with us (the party),” continued Amarinder Singh. .
He recalled how Sindhu once told him in Delhi that he meditated for six hours every day and he wondered if he was a stable person.
“He told me that he meditates six hours a day and talks to God for one hour. When I asked him curiously what he talked to God, he replied ‘the way we talk’,” he told Sonia Gandhi. Later, Sidhu did not seem to be a stable person.
“Sidhu was the only minister I dropped because he was completely incompetent. He did not clean and manage his files,” he continued.
In response to a question, Amarinder said that in his second term as chief minister for four-and-a-half years, 92 per cent of his vote promises had been fulfilled.
“Tell me, what did I do wrong? If they told me (before) to resign, I would do it. That day (September 2021) they (Congress High Command) told me in the morning (to resign), I did it in the evening,” Singh said. .
“Who cares? I didn’t come here to grab anything,” he added.
Amarinder Singh again spoke about the alleged #metoo case of Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi, which he said was not followed by the woman in question.
“The lady was upset and I told her that when she met me she complained against Channi (who was a minister then). She said she was being harassed. I said I was very sorry to hear that and I told her permission. Talk to Channi, ”recalled Amarinder Singh.
“Then I called Channi and asked, ‘Did you do it?’ I said that if you do anything wrong, I will remove you from my ministry. He confessed that he had made a mistake after which I told him to go and see and apologize to the woman. The lady has accepted his apology, “he said.
She said action would have been taken if the concerned woman officer had put pressure on her complaint.
Earlier on Saturday, Amarinder had said that denying Channi’s involvement in illegal sand mining was a “complete lie” and alleged that he had received input that the CM was involved in mafia along with other Congress leaders and MLAs.
About the former Punjab IPS officer Mohammad Mustafa, who was accused of making communal remarks at a public meeting in Malerkotla, Amarinder said, “The man should be arrested, he is ruining the environment of Punjab.”
“The man has no right to be out and I hope the Election Commission will take notice and send him to jail,” he said.
