Admission to JNU through CUET will continue to provide an equal playing field – Times of India

Jawaharlal Nehru University in its recent Academic Council meeting has decided to enroll in its various programs through Common University Entrance Test (CUET) from 2022-2023. It was emphasized that CUET would provide an equal playing field for a number of deserving students across the country and reduce the burden of taking multiple entrance exams.

JNU Vice-Chancellor M Jagdesh Kumar in a recent tweet confirmed the decision of the JNU Academic Council and added that the NTA will conduct the examination.

Speaking to the Education Times, Admissions Director Jayant Tripathi highlighted that the decision was consistent with the 157th AC meeting of the university held in March 2020 when it was decided to accept and admit students through CUET as it moved ahead with the NTA.

JNU has been conducting JNU Entrance Tests (JNUEE) in different centers of the country since 2019 to enroll students in various study programs in Computer Based Test (CBT) mode in collaboration with NTA. Because of Tripathi, there will not be much difference between CUET and JNUE. So the students studying in CUET will not stay at sea.

Drawing in parallel with JEE and GATE, he added that “a well-proven system for admissions to various courses at IITs, IISCs, NITs, etc.”, Tripathi said CUET would follow the same track. “In the past, students applied to the universities around them. But with CUET’s marks, even JNU and DU could be within their reach. The exam will give students a chance to dream big, ”he added.

A JNU faculty member, speaking on condition of anonymity, said the CUET concept was not new in itself because the concept was first raised in 2010 and some central universities agreed to be a part of it. Until last year, 14 central universities were conducting admissions under CUET, but from next academic year, all 45 central universities across the country are expected to use Common Entrance Test scores for UG and PG admissions.

He added that the test yields good results for students, including those with less privileged departments who need to fill out a single application form for a centralized test which will help save both cost and time. “Since the government has already reserved for students from the Economically Weaker Department (EWS), the same rules can be applied for national level examination CUET. There will be merit-based rank for admission in Central University, multiple exams will have to be avoided. ”
