9 in Top 10 JEE (A) Rankers, 58 out of Top 100 choose IIT-B, Delhi Remote 2nd – Times of India

MUMBAI: The country’s young brain cream has chosen IIT Bombay towards the end of the first round of 2021-22 admissions, making it the most sought-after tech college, second and third in Delhi and Madras.

Nine of the top 10 rankers will do their BTech in Computer Science at IIT-B. Scroll through the rankings further and 43 out of the top 50 have followed it and decided to choose Pawai College over any other technology institution.

Among the top 100 JEE (A) -2021 rankholders who have been admitted to IIT this year, 50% or more have preferred IIT-B over any other. Then there was Delhi, where 32 of the top 100 were admitted. Last year, 64 out of the top 100 joined IIT-B and 33 joined IIT Delhi.

Many factors are responsible for this: from geography to gastronomy and from placement records to what coaching classes tell students. Towards the end of the first round of IIT admissions on 31st October, a look at the options applied by the top 1,000 students shows that Bombay, Delhi, Roorkee and Madras are the top choice, though Kanpur, Kharagpur and Hyderabad have a huge representation.

“This year, we have seen 9 out of the top 10 rankers choose IIT-B. Most of our streams have reached new heights. With one branch closed and the next opened, the students chose IIT Bombay over the others. It tells us that we are the choice of choice, ”said Shubhashis Chowdhury, Director, IIT-B.


The faculty at IIT-B say it is the quality of education, the campus environment, the rigor and the research that electrifies its academic and social life. “Research and teaching at IITs, especially the first generation, is comparable to the undergraduate level. I think it is a perception among students that forces them to choose one institution over another, ”said Parag Singla, JEE Chairman, IIT Delhi.

IIT Roorkee opens its computer science stream at 32nd rank; The college, which is celebrating its 175th anniversary, has 2 students in the top 250 ranks and both will be awarded the James Thomson Scholarship, with a stipend of Rs 25,000 per month.

“It’s been a long journey. Our current students are reaching out to interested people through social media and saying more about their vibrant campus life, canteen, our placement drive and festivals on campus,” said Mukesh Kumar Barua, Dean (Student Welfare) at IIT Roorkee.


Among the rest, Kanpur, Madras and Hyderabad have several recipients in the top 500. There are 23 IITs with 16,232 seats.

Although some IITs have lost their brilliance over the years. Once, IIT Kanpur gave the demi-god status to the candidates. This year, IIT Kanpur finished at 213 in the CS100 rank.

Among the young institutions, the rank of 191 has been chosen for IIT Hyderabad where it has finished in CS520. In IIT Kharagpur and Guwahati, CS’s preferred choice opened at 207 (finished at 285) and at Guwahati at 439 at 593.
