Haridwar: A five-member Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been formed to probe the case of alleged hate speech during the ‘Dharma Sangsad’ held at Haridwar.
Karan Singh Nagnal, Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Garhwal, said, “A five-member SIT has been constituted under an SP-level officer to probe the Haridwar Dharma Sangsad hate speech case. Legal action will be taken against those found guilty.” ”
Meanwhile, Haridwar police have named Hindu leaders Yeti Narasimhanand and Sagar Sindhuraj in an FIR in a case of alleged hate speech.
“Based on the viral video clip, two more names, Sagar Sindhu Maharaj and Yati Narsinghananda Giri, have been added to the FIR in the case of anti-religious rhetoric, after further investigation. Section 295A has been included in the FIR,” said Ashok Kumar, Director General of Police. Uttarakhand.
Earlier, police said that a case has been registered against Dharma Das, Annapurna, Wasim Rizvi alias Jitendra Tyagi and several others under Section 153A of the Indian Penal Code.
After viewing the clips, the police added section 295 of the Indian Penal Code (destruction, damage, or desecration of a place of worship or a sacred place, for the purpose of insulting the religion of a class of persons) to the FIR of the Indian Penal Code. . The Dharma Sangsad was held on December 17-19 in Haridwar.
Uttarakhand police have registered an FIR against Rizvi, former chairman of the Uttar Pradesh Central Shia Waqf Board, under Section 153A (promoting animosity between different groups on the basis of religion) of the IPC relating to statements made at the event.
It is noteworthy that after Rizvi was “expelled” from Islam, the former chairperson of the Shia Waqf Board in Uttar Pradesh converted to Hinduism last month.
The inclusion of the name in the FIR came to light after videos of provocative speeches by Hindu leaders and incitement of violence against the minority community surfaced on social media. The speech was broadcast live on Facebook.
