20% Cancellations, Tourism 1st Economic Casualty Of Omicron: 5 Points

Omicron threat: Tourism sector sees growing cancellation due to new alternative threats

New Delhi:
The tourism sector, which was hit hard by the COVID-19 epidemic throughout the year 2020 due to lockdowns and travel bans, is once again facing a potential crisis. Cancellations have increased during the holiday season, tour operators say.

Here is a 5-point cheatsheet on tourism under the Omicron threat:

  1. In the last three days, the number of cancellations has increased by 20 percent, travel agents told NDTV.

  2. Holiday bookings are most likely to be canceled in Europe, the United States and Dubai, Managing Director of Madura Travel Services Sriharan Balan told NDTV.

  3. The cancellation will drastically reduce the number of travelers this month as compared to the five lakh people in Tamil Nadu who went on holiday this season in 2019.

  4. Maharashtra has made it essential to have a negative RT-PCR report for fully vaccinated arriving passengers, which will slow down domestic travel in that state, travel operators say.

  5. Due to the limited ‘bubble’ system and what kind of system countries have, and now with the threat of new coronavirus forms of concern, airfare from countries like Omicron, India to UAE, USA, UK and Canada is skyrocketing.
