New Delhi:
More than 2.82 lakh new cases have been reported in India in the last 24 hours, an increase of 18 per cent over yesterday.

  1. The positivity rate, which is an indicator of the spread of infection, increased slightly from 14.43 percent to 15.13 percent.

  2. The country has so far reported 8,961 cases of the fast-expanding Omicron variant, which is driving the third wave of the epidemic. The Omicron count has risen 0.79 percent since yesterday.

  3. A total of 441 deaths have been reported from the infection in the last 24 hours – a significant increase from yesterday’s 310 counts.

  4. The country’s active caseload currently stands at 18.31 million, the health ministry said in its bulletin.

  5. More than 1.88 million patients have recovered from covid in the last 24 hours and the country’s recovery rate is now 93.88 percent.

  6. A total of 70.74 crore samples have been tested so far. Over 18.69 million tests were performed in the last 24 hours – 2 million more than yesterday.

  7. More than 158 crore doses of vaccine have been given under the nationwide campaign due to strong pressure from the government to increase coverage in the third wave of infections.

  8. One week after enlisting the conditions that do not require testing, the government said yesterday that the number of tests is declining and states need to increase the ramp.

  9. More than 1.7 million new cases were reported in India last week, but hospital admissions rates were still significantly lower than in the second wave, pushing the healthcare system to the brink of collapse.

  10. As the number of daily cases in the third wave major cities has increased, governments have been forced to lift restrictions on public movement after the second wave.
