Visakhapatnam: About 124 participants have been declared winners of India Skills 2021 regional competition – South. The four-day event ended on Saturday in Visakhapatnam. More than 400 young participants between the ages of 19 and 24 from Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Kerala, Tamil Nadu and Telangana participated in the competition.

There were 51 competitors competing in various disciplines like brick laying, auto body repair, welding, beauty therapy, hotel reception, mobile robotics, health and social care, landscape gardening, carpentry, painting and decorating, web technology and many more.

State Minister for Tourism, Culture and Youth Development M Srinivas Rao welcomed the winners at the closing ceremony at Andhra University Convention Center. Out of the total winners, 62 were each awarded a gold medal with a cash prize of Rs 21,000 and 62 were awarded a silver medal with Rs 11,000. Kerala won the highest number of medals (32), followed by Karnataka (29), Tamil Nadu (21), Andhra Pradesh (18) and Telangana (2). Participants from other states also entered the competition through wild card entries from ‘Track 2’ (states where the competition was not held) and ‘Track 3’ (candidates nominated by industry and corporates). A total of 22 medals were awarded in the wild card category.

The winners of the four regional competitions (East, West, North and South) will have the opportunity to showcase their skills at the India Skills Nationals to be held in January 2022. The gold and silver medal winners of the national competition will represent the country at the World Skills Competition to be held in October 2022 in Shanghai (China).

Speaking on the occasion, M Srinivas Rao said that it was encouraging for all the participants in Indiaskills Regional Competition, South to witness the strength and passion shown in their respective skills.

World Skill India Senior Head Colonel Arun Chandel also spoke on the occasion.
